10 Points of Pride for Kings Park

Advanced and Inclusive Academics

We are the only pre-K-3rd grade school in FCPS. Kings Park Elementary School has a robust K-3 Advanced Academic Program with leveled services that include a local level IV cluster-based site and Young Scholars. Inclusive settings are present in all school aged classrooms and include preschool (Family and Early Childhood Education Program), Early Childhood Class-Based, and Preschool Autism classrooms. We nurture the potential of every student!

Student Leadership

Our students are empowered to take an active role in our school community and in their future! We have a variety of student leadership opportunities, including Cub Council, Cub Patrols, Get2Green, and our TV station KPOV (Kids' Point of View). We focus on future readiness through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) and career connections, focus on critical thinking, Strategies & STEAM labs, Career Day, and more.

Together We Grow

The Kings Park Elementary School motto is “Together We Grow” because we believe that every member of our community can make a positive difference in a child’s primary school experience! We also partner with neighboring Lake Braddock Secondary School for the Bruin Buddy program which links Kings Park students with teen mentors.

Our Teachers are Lifelong Learners

We invest in our teachers’ ongoing professional development with a full-time instructional coach and advanced literacy and math training. We’re proud of our highly qualified staff, including our National Board Certified teachers, Advanced Academic Program certified teaching staff, and staff who have been recognized by FCPS and our community for their excellence.

Meet Us at the Library

Kings Park Elementary School partners with WETA for “Meet Me at the Library” several times a year. Our families join us at the Kings Park Public Library for stories, games, and activities focused on literacy, math, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Every student leaves with a free book and Meet Me at the Library is a Kings Park tradition!

Family-Centered and Diverse

We believe strongly in family engagement and we’re proud of our supportive PTA. Multilingual staff at Kings Park Elementary School speak 24 languages and connect with families across a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Our families are active partners in their students’ learning through Mystery Readers, Parent Morning Meetings, PTA events, Welcome Walks, Building Scavenger Hunts, and Playground Playdates.

Purple Star School

Kings Park Elementary School is proud to be recognized as a Purple Star School in support of our military-connected students and families. Approximately 10% of our families are military-connected! We are grateful for their service and their dedication to our country and our school community.

Responsive Classroom

At Kings Park Elementary School, we believe that students thrive when they feel that they’re a part of their community. Our Responsive Classroom approach balances academics with social-emotional skills like self-management, responsible decision making, and problem solving. Each day begins with a classroom Morning Meeting that focuses on building community in the classroom and throughout the school.

“Learning and Playing and Much, Much More!”

The Kings Park Elementary School song celebrates all the wonderful things happening at KPES and can be heard throughout our school on Fridays. During graduation week each year, our former students come to visit us as Lake Braddock Secondary Seniors. The memories and lyrics flood back as they walk the halls and join in singing our school song with current Kings Park students!

Modern Learning Spaces

We integrate technology for personalized learning environments. This includes 1:1 technology for hands-on experiences in STEAM, our inclusive accessible library, flexible seating in all spaces, skylights/natural lights in our gym, outdoor learning spaces and our Get2Green Garden, bathrooms in most classrooms, and water bottle filling stations throughout the building.
